Lady Gaga Sales May Burst Amazon's Cloud
Lady Gaga's album Born This Way is projected to have sold one million copies in the US in the first week of sales based on Amazon's sales of 330,000 copies on Monday, May 23, the first day of release. With the overwhelming response to the website's special 99-cent price for Gaga's album, the heavy traffic crashed the servers and the technological snafu put sales temporarily on hold. The 99-cent deal resumed May 24 and was was expected to generate another 150,000 in sales. The volume of Gaga album sales from the deep discount was intended to get a jump on rival iTunes' yet-to-be launched cloud drive. On Tuesday, May 31, Billboard chart positions will determine if Lady Gaga meets or beats Taylor Swift's record for selling one million copies of Speak Now in the first week of release - and if Amazon's Cloud Drive benefited from the sales surge.
