Lady Gaga's album Born This Way is projected to have sold one million copies in the US in the first week of sales based on Amazon's sales of 330,000 copies on Monday, May 23, the first day of release. With the overwhelming response to the website's special 99-cent price for Gaga's album, the heavy traffic crashed the servers and the technological snafu put sales temporarily on hold. The 99-cent deal resumed May 24 and was was expected to generate another 150,000 in sales. The volume of Gaga album sales from the deep discount was intended to get a jump on rival iTunes' yet-to-be launched cloud drive. On Tuesday, May 31, Billboard chart positions will determine if Lady Gaga meets or beats Taylor Swift's record for selling one million copies of Speak Now in the first week of release - and if Amazon's Cloud Drive benefited from the sales surge. A series of previously unseen photographs of Marilyn Monroe have been published after being bought for $2 (£1.20) at a garage sale. The pictures were picked up by photographer Anton Fury at a sale in New Jersey in 1980 and he kept them for three decades before making them public. They show the young actress doing a photo shoot before she was widely famous. In some of the pictures she is in a bathing suit by a swimming pool, and one shows her lying in a bed. He said it was unclear where the photographs of Monroe were taken. At that time the actress was aged 24.

Justin Timberlake's Race Car Wins Indy 500

The race car sponsored by Justin Timberlake's William Rast clothing line won the Indy 500 in Indianapolis, Indiana on Sunday. "What a Memorial Day weekend!" he tweeted. "The William Rast car just won the Indy 500!" The car, driven by racing veteran Dan Wheldon, beat out 32 other drivers for the coveted Borg-Warner Trophy. Timberlake, 30, founded William Rast with his childhood best friend Trace Ayala in 2006. The film earned an additional $32 million on Saturday. Worldwide, the film earned $256.3 million, making it the biggest international opening ever. Kristen Wiig's R-rated comedy Bridesmaids came in second place at box office, pulling in $6.4 million on Friday and $8.2 million on Saturday. Chris Hemsworth's action film Thor came into its third weekend in third place at the box office, earning $15.5 million. The family film Rio was the fourth-highest weekend earner, followed by Priest 3D and Jumping the Broom. Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin's romantic comedy Something Borrowed pulled in only $3.4 million this weekend.
